چکیده
The assay medium contained SO~M-KCI, ZOm~-Tricine, 0.83 mM-EDTA, 1 mMsuccinate, 5 m ~ N a ~ s O ~ , 10 % (w/v) sucrose, 50,u~-carbonyl cyanide p-trifluoromethoxyphenylhydrazone, final pH7.6, in a total volume of 2.0ml. Reaction was started by the addition of chromatophores to give 20,u~-bacteriochlorophyll in assay medium. Release of phosphate was measured colorimetrically after 3 min at 30°C in complete darkness. (a) Assay medium supplemented with 2m~-MgCl, and ATP varied as indicated; (b ) assay medium supplemented with 10mM-ATP and MgCIz varied as indicated.

Fighting fit: thermal plasticity of metabolic function and fighting success in the crayfish Cherax destructor
1. We examined the effect of thermal acclimation on fighting success and underlying performance traits in the crayfish Cherax destructor . We tested the hypothesis that animals will be more successful when fighting at their acclimation temperature than at a colder or warmer temperature, and that changes in metabolic capacity underlie differences in behavioural performance. 2. Thermal acclimatio...

temperature is of crucial importance to ectotherms, particularly for fish whose branchial respiration forces body temperature to follow that of the habitat. During an annual cycle, fish from temperate zones cope with a wide thermal range. To offset these thermal shifts, many species modify their biochemical and physiological properties (Hazel and Prosser, 1974). A common response in cold-active...
متن کاملCold acclimation increases mitochondrial oxidative capacity without inducing mitochondrial uncoupling in goldfish white skeletal muscle
Goldfish have been used for cold acclimation studies, which have focused on changes in glycolytic and oxidative enzymes or alterations in lipid composition in skeletal muscle. Here we examine the effects of cold acclimation on the functional properties of isolated mitochondria and permeabilized fibers from goldfish white skeletal muscle, focusing on understanding the types of changes that occur...
متن کاملTemperature acclimation alters oxidative capacities and composition of membrane lipids without influencing activities of enzymatic antioxidants or susceptibility to lipid peroxidation in fish muscle.
Cold acclimation of ectotherms results typically in enhanced oxidative capacities and lipid remodeling, changes that should increase the risk of lipid peroxidation (LPO). It is unclear whether activities of antioxidant enzymes may respond in a manner to mitigate the increased potential for LPO. The current study addresses these questions using killifish (Fundulus heteroclitus macrolepidotus) an...
متن کاملChanges in mitochondrial oxidative capacities during thermal acclimation of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss: roles of membrane proteins, phospholipids and their fatty acid compositions.
Changes in the properties of mitochondria from oxidative muscle of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were examined during warm (5 degrees C to 15 degrees C) acclimation. Trout were studied shortly after the initial thermal change and after 8 weeks acclimation to 15 degrees C. To identify potential mechanisms by which oxidative capacities change, the modifications of phospholipid composition, me...
